Boat cruising
It doesn’t matter what season it is, every traveler has to experience lake cruising. We are here to help you with that. Skadar Lake has a lot to offer, but we suggest to you routes which are, in our opinion, the most beautiful.
All routes begin in Virpazar. This small picturesque town was founded in 19th century and named by whirl (vir), where the locals came by boats to the market place where they were selling their homemade products. Virpazar has around 300 citizens and its located on the delta of rivers Crmnica and Orahovstica, has three bridges with a medieval fortress Besac above it.
If you would like to take a join longer boat tour with another small group, let us know, and we will try to accommodate your request if any other tourists are taking the same tour at the same time. We only take a maximum of 12 tourists in each group to keep the group size small, so that we can give you personal attention. :)
Every visitor is obligated to pay 5 euros for the entrance to the National park. Kids till 15 years have a free entrance.
Additional info: Yearly ticket (including all National parks) is 13,5 eur
In the case of joining the group, the tourist does not share the price but only gets a discount.
All of the mentioned tours include swimming, which is optional. It is not obligatory but it's a very beautiful experience and we highly recommend it!
After the small and narrow canal that leads from Virpazar and connects us with the Skadar lake, we are passing by fortress Lesendro from 1843. While cruising the narrow canals with our small boats, you can enjoy the untouched nature of Lake Skadar. Cruise continues in a large area of Skadar lake, covered by water lillies and other floating plants, inhabited by many bird and fish species. We round up our tour with cruising around small islands known as gorice, Mala and Velika Cakovica, Andrijska gora, all the way to the entrance of the canals that leads to Rijeka Crnojevica.
Departure from Virpazar. Cruising around "Grmozur" from 1847. (prison-island), known as Montenegrin Alcatraz. During the cruise from Grmozur to St. Nicola's Monastery, we are passing through the delta of Moraca river. Delta of Moraca river is fantastic place for bird watching! We make a short stop, and hike to the monastery.Walk uphill offer you spectacular views of the Lake and the Morača Delta lined by huge green willows. The monastery was founded in 1233 and is thus the oldest monastery on Skadar Lake. Due to its strategic location, it suffered from Turkish attacks and in 1843 it was turned into a Turkish fortress with barracks. King Nikola rebuilt it in 1886, but after World War II it was burned and abandoned – until 1998, when the restoration of the church began. After the visit, we return to Virpazar.
The starting point is at Virpazar. We begin with exploring the first prison of Montenegro, Grmozur, known as Montenegrin Alcatraz.
Passing through the delta of Morača river, which gives its visitors an opportunity to see many birds and animals.
When exiting the river, we pass by the fortress Lesendro and continue towards the narrow canals that are surrounded with water lilies, water chestnuts and reeds..
This trip is a great option for those who want to see both sides of the Lake and decide which one they like the most.
Departuring from Virpazar, through narrow canals and water lilly fields, we cruise to one of the most beautiful monasteries- Kom. We go out of the boat.On our 15 minutes hike to the Monastery, we will stummble upon a small terrace where you can take fabilous photos and enjoy panoramic view of Skadar Lake. This monastery is devoted to the mother of Christ and it was built between 1415. and 1427. It's also a place where Petar II Petrovic Njegos was proclaimed as archimandrite in 1831.
Cruising from Virpazar to abandoned village "Poseljani" is very interesting for guests who like active routes. We hike for about 800m, up to the wonderful waterfalls and abandoned water mills.Poseljani used to be a significant village, as it contained about 15 working water mills. Over time, the need for mills disappeared, and the village was almost completely gone. Only the stone walls overgrown with ivy remained from the former mills. The oldest bridgein village is said to be 300 years old. Nowadays there is only one family living in this village. Our guests love to refresh in the waterfalls, which we warmly recommend. Recommended seasons for visiting the miles is Spring and Autumn. June and August and unavailable due to dry season.
This is our favourite tour. During the five-hour cruising we will introduce to you our history and tradition, you can enjoy the local specialities and if you like birdwatching, this is the right tour for you. Cruising from Virpazar to Krnjice village, through the "Manastirska tapija" (special bird reservatory) there is a big posibility that you will see pelicans, among other bitd species. In Krnjice you can enjoy the luch at the local family, with the price of 15 Eur per person. In return from Krnjice we are visiting Radus (the deepest point at the Skadar Lake), fisherman village "Seoca" and "Grmozur island".
This is one of our bestselling tour. Karuc is a fishing village. This place is attractive not only because of the picturesque location but also for other attractions such as fishing, bird watching and swimming. There is a possibility to enjoy lunch at the local family on a cozy terrace with magnificent views over a secluded corner of the Skadar lake.
